A large, high quality reproduction map of the Isle of Wight by John Speed, original from 1610. This is copied from the well known atlas "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine", published in 1611. All Speed's maps were originally printed in black & white, with owners having them coloured by hand, the result being that each one became truly unique.
Includes town plans of Newport & Southampton with notable streets & places named, and is also edged with the arms of four nobles.
Size: 51cm x 38cm, with a generous border for mounting and framing.
